Online counselling across Canada

Starting again is not the same as starting from nothing.

You already know how to carry things. What you may not have had is somewhere to put them down.

If you are not ready to read any further, stay here a moment and follow the rings.

Four seconds in, hold for two, six seconds out. It is the same count I would give you in a session.

Breathe in

A slowly expanding and contracting field of particles, following a four second breath in, a two second hold, and a six second breath out.

Who I sit with

Adults, teenagers, and couples. People who want counselling that takes their faith seriously, and people who would rather it never came up. I have a particular commitment to Black and Indigenous clients, and to men, who are usually the last in the room to ask for help and the ones who most often say afterwards that they wish they had come sooner.

You do not need a diagnosis, a crisis, or the right words to book a first session. Not knowing where to start is a normal place to start.

What I help with

Most people arrive without the right words for it. That is fine.

Anxiety and low mood

When your head will not stop and your body will not settle.

You lie awake rehearsing a conversation that already happened. You are tired in a way that sleep does not fix. Things you used to manage without thinking have started to take everything you have. We work out what is keeping the pattern running, and what actually interrupts it.

Grief and loss

For the losses people expect you to be over by now.

A death, a marriage, a country you left, a version of your life that is not coming back. Grief does not move in a straight line and it does not keep to anyone's schedule. There is nothing to fix here. There is a lot to carry, and it is easier carried out loud.

Couples counselling

For the same argument, had a hundred different ways.

Most couples do not arrive because of one big thing. They arrive because the same conversation keeps ending badly and nobody can say why. We slow it down far enough to see what is actually happening, and then we work on it together.

Before you marry

Prepare and Enrich, with someone who has run it for eleven years.

Premarital counselling is not a test you can fail. It is a structured way to have the conversations that are easier to have now than in three years: money, family, faith, expectations, and what each of you assumes the other already knows.

Christian counselling

If you want your faith in the room, it is welcome here.

I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Religious Studies. For clients who want it, faith is part of the work rather than something set aside at the door. For clients who do not, it never comes up. Both are entirely normal, and you do not have to explain your choice.

When things feel unsafe

Thoughts of ending your life are more common than people admit.

If you are having them, you are not broken and you are not beyond help. This is part of what I work with. If you are in immediate danger, please use the crisis numbers at the bottom of this page first, then come back and book when you are safe.

How I work

I do not have one method that I apply to everyone. I use cognitive behavioural therapy when a thought pattern is running the show, solution focused work when you need something to change this month rather than next year, and person centred work when what you actually need is to be heard properly by someone who is not going to flinch. Most of the time it is some combination, and we adjust as we go.

  • You set the direction

You decide what we work on. My job is to help you get there, not to tell you where there is.

  • Nothing is too small to bring

People often apologise for the thing that turns out to matter most. You do not have to earn your session with a big enough problem.

  • Faith is yours to include or leave out

Some clients want it central. Others never mention it. Both are normal and neither needs explaining.

Your first fifty minutes

Before

Most people spend the week before wondering if it is worth it.

You do not need a reason good enough. Booking is not a commitment to anything except one conversation, and plenty of people arrive without knowing what they want to say.

  2. During
  3. After

How it works

  1. 01

    Book a time

Pick a slot that works. No phone tag, no waiting for someone to call you back.

  2. 02

    We meet online

Fifty minutes on a secure video call. All you need is a door that closes and a decent connection.

  3. 03

We decide together what we are working on

I use approaches with evidence behind them, mainly cognitive behavioural, solution focused, and person centred, and I fit them to you rather than the other way round.

What it costs

Listed in Canadian dollars, per fifty minute session.

Individual counselling
$120
Couples counselling
$150
Individual, lower cost
$90
Couples, lower cost
$120

The lower cost places are there for people for whom the standard rate is the reason they would not come. There is no form and no means test. If that is you, say so when you book.

When you are ready

There is no rush and no pressure. When you want to start, a first session takes about two minutes to book.
